As you will be aware, the situation with COVID-19 is constantly changing and it could affect our ability to deliver services in the coming weeks and months.
Following the Department of Health and Social Care and Public Health England's guidance to avoid non-essential contact with others, with the health of our customers as our priority, we have taken the decision to cancel with immediate effect all Library, Museum and Archives groups, events and activities until the end of May.
All Libraries, Multi-service Centres and Customer Service Centres are now closed
All East Riding Museums are now closed until further notice. This includes East Riding Museum and Beverley Art Gallery in the Treasure House, Beverley Guildhall, Skidby Mill and Goole Museum. Parts of our museums service can still be found online
East Riding Archives is now closed until further notice. Parts of our archives service can still be found online
Our public rights of way and Local Nature Reserves remain open to use for daily exercise purposes - however, planned countryside events are not currently taking place. This will be reviewed on 1 July, 2020 or sooner if government advice changes.
Cycling is great for fun and fitness, but please do not cycle on public footpaths. Please utilise quieter roads, cycle ways and cycle routes, and public bridleways. Cycling on public footpaths causes safety issues for the increased number of people out walking, spoils their enjoyment and is not permitted by the owners of the land.
Cycling is also great for fun and fitness, but please do not cycle on public footpaths. Please utilise quieter roads, cycle ways and cycle routes, and public bridleways. Cycling on public footpaths causes safety issues for the increased number of people out walking, spoils their enjoyment and is not permitted by the owners of the land.
Our four disused railway lines in the East Riding offer quieter places to cycle away from cars, and all offer informal or larger car parks.
The East Riding has some great walks. Choose a short walk or something more challenging, but remember to keep two metres away from other people. Plan a walk from home using our Public Rights of Way map to see where there are countryside paths near you. Visit www.walkingtheriding.eastriding.gov.uk
At all times, follow the Countryside Code which has information for dog walkers and etiquette about gates. Please respect other users and the owners of the land and take your litter home.
Further information on our public rights of way and Local Nature Reserves, cycle routes and much more can be found on coastandcountryside.co.uk.
The recent statement by the UK Government on the gradual easing of the current lockdown restrictions is welcome news.
Following the latest statement by the UK Government on the gradual easing of the current lockdown restrictions, the facilities that are provided by our Coastal Services team remain closed such as the beach chalets and land train services and government advice does not confirm when these can reopen and is conditional on further progress being made.
We will continue to ensure best practice are developed for when we are able to reopen.
The foreshore and beaches remain open and we would like to take this opportunity to remind our users to maintain social distancing and ensure that dogs are kept on leads at all times. This will continue to be monitored by our team and government instructions will be reinforced where necessary.
Our position will be reviewed on the 1st July 2020, or sooner if government advice changes and we will continue to liaise with you directly with up to date information.
For our customers that have booked chalets within our seafront facilities, our team will be in touch with you over the next few days to discuss various options with you.
We would like to thank our local residents, visitors and holiday customers for your understanding and continued support during what is a difficult period for us all. I can assure you that the team are working hard behind the scenes to ensure that the Coastal Services team has made the necessary adjustments to open when we are permitted to do so and to ensure that both our staff and you are safe when you are once again permitted to visit us.
